Fresh spells of rain and snow expected in Uttarakhand on Feb 19
After a prolonged dry spell in Uttarakhand, the meteorological centre on Friday predicted light to moderate rain and snow at a few places in the hill state on February 19 and 20.
The weather in Uttarakhand has remained mostly dry since the beginning of February, except a spell of rain and snow in the first week. The dry spell has resulted in a surge in the mercury across the state.
“Another western disturbance is likely to hit the state on February 19 and 20, resulting in snow in the high altitude areas located at a height of 3,500 metres and above, while foothills will witness cloudy conditions along with intermittent rain,” said Bikram Singh, director of meteorological centre.
Significantly, higher reaches of Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag and Pithoragarh district are expected to receive snowfall during weekend, while low lying places like Dehradun, Pantnagar and Haridwar will experience rain.
Both maximum and minimum temperatures that were settling above normal level by over 5-7 notches for many days are also likely to plunge by considerable level. “The temperatures will also drop with the beginning of next week and will settle around normal levels,” said Singh.
On Friday, the maximum temperature in Dehradun was recorded at 26 degrees Celsius, five notches above normal, while minimum settled at 13.2 degrees, around 5 degrees Celsius above normal level. Similarly, other places in the state are also experiencing high temperatures.
