MAD celebrates fourth foundation day with a mini marathon “Madathon”

With over 1900 participants; MAD celebrates fourth foundation day

Doon’s own student activist group, Making a Difference by Being the Difference (MAD); completed four years of existence today- and marked the occasion with much fanfare. As has been stated custom; the group organized a mini marathon run on the occasion with the theme of “reviving” the dying streams of Doon valley. The group also collected 2000 signatures on its flex petition to the Chief Minister requesting the implementation of the NIH report which had stated that streams in Doon valley could be revived.

The difference in this MADATHON was the sheer strength; where over 1900 participants came forward even when MAD had modest expectations. The mammoth strength of students gathered at the main venue for celebrations; Summer Valley School; where the Mayor Shri. Vinod Chamoli flagged off the MADATHON. Adequate arrangements were in place as requisite permission was obtained from District authorities.

As the marathon completed the circular route from Summer Valley School via Clock Tower and back to the same venue; members of Team MAD- who had stationed themselves at six check points cleaned up the waste left behind by the participants.

In the cultural programme to follow; MAD was praised by many eminent citizens. Dr. Anil Joshi from HESCO called MAD a movement of the youth which should think rural also. The Chief Guest of the function Sundar Lal Bahuguna; who seldom gives any public appearance- Made an exception for MAD and attended the programme wishing the group well. Dr. Farooq from Himalaya Company also praised MAD’s efforts and so did veteran journalist Raj Kanwar.

The winners of the MADATHON, \Harish Koronga was awarded a cash prize of Rs. 5,000 whereas the first runner up Rajesh Kumar was given a cash prize of Rs. 3,000. Tulsi  came first in the women’s category whereas Himani came second- both of whom also won the same cash prizes. MAD also distributed special cash prizes on the occasion.

MADATHON 4.0 was ably supported by DMMC, ONGC, Ashiyana Bakers, Future Auto-wheels, USP and Summer Valley School. Key Maddians such as Chairperson Abhijay Negi, Aakash Bhatia, Sayyed Manzer Imam, Shardul Rana, Karan Kapoor, Sammanikas Rawat, Alok Bhatt, Ankit Bisht were present on the occasion with a team of 50 self inspired volunteers.
