Schools to remain closed on September 13 in Dehradun district after heavy rain alert

A strong spell of rains is seen across Uttarakhand at a time when generally monsoon retreats. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert of heavy rain on September 13 in many districts of Garhwal and Kumaon. After the alert of the Meteorological Department, the Uttarakhand Disaster Management Department has issued an advisory to the District Magistrate of Dehradun, Almora, Chamoli, Pauri, Pithoragarh, Udham Singh Nagar, Bageshwar and Haridwar. At the same time, in view of the heavy rains district magistrate’s of Dehradun, Champawat and Chamoli have issued orders for schools to be closed on September 13.

Schools will remain closed in the capital Dehradun on Friday, September 13. According to the order issued by the District Magistrate, in view of the continuous heavy rainfall in the district and the warning issued by the Meteorological Department, an order has been issued to keep all government and private schools from class 1 to 12 closed in the district on Friday, September 13, 2024 .

After the weather alert of the Meteorological Department, the Uttarakhand Disaster Management Department has also issued an advisory to the districts. During this time, there is a possibility of increasing the risk of landslides in the hilly areas along with the problem of waterlogging in the plains. Apart from this, officials of all departments from the disaster-related district have been asked to remain alert.

In the order issued by Chamoli DM, it was said that ‘In view of the warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall at some places in Chamoli district by the Meteorological Center Dehradun, District Magistrate Sandeep Tiwari has also declared holiday in all government, non-government, private schools from class 1 to 12 and Anganwadi centers on 13.09.2024.’
