Election commission announces by-election date for Haridwar and Chamoli

With the end of the code of conduct for the Lok Sabha elections in Uttarakhand, the code of conduct is going to be implemented again in two districts Haridwar and Chamoli. The Election Commission has issued a notification for the by-elections of Badrinath Assembly (Chamoli) and Mangalore Assembly (Haridwar).

Badrinath Congress MLA Rajendra Bhandari resigned just before the Lok Sabha elections. He joined the BJP. Due to this, the Badrinath Assembly became vacant. While the seat of Mangalore is vacant since the death BSP MLA Haji Sarwat Karim Ansari.

By-elections were to be held here along with the Lok Sabha elections, but the Election Commission did not release the date due to the petition related to it being pending in the High Court. Now after its disposal, the Commission has released the date.

  • Date of release of notification – June 14
  • Last date of nomination – June 21
  • Scrutiny of nomination papers – June 24
  • Last date of withdrawal of nomination – June 26
  • Date of assembly by-election – July 10
  • Date of counting of votes – July 13
