Cyclone Ditwah: IMD issues rain alert in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu

Cyclone Ditwah has altered the weather in southern Indian states. The Andhra Pradesh Disaster Management Authority (APDMA) stated that the area of ​​severe pressure in the southwest Bay of Bengal, off the coast of Sri Lanka, has intensified into a cyclone. Officials also stated that Yemen has named the cyclone “Ditwah.”

Over the past six hours, the cyclone has been moving at a speed of 15 km per hour toward the southern coastal areas of northern Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. The Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert regarding the situation. The department stated that the situation could worsen by Sunday, November 30. By Sunday morning, Cyclone Ditwah will reach the coasts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and southern Andhra Pradesh.

According to the latest information, Cyclone Ditwah is currently 200 km from Trincomalee (Sri Lanka), 610 km from Puducherry, and 700 km southeast of Chennai. Meanwhile, officials also say that strong winds are likely to blow across southern coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions for the next 24 hours.

Red alert issued for several districts

The Andhra Pradesh Disaster Management Authority further stated that the cyclone is expected to reach the Tamil Nadu-Puducherry-South Coastal Andhra Pradesh coastline by Sunday morning. A second-level danger warning has been issued for all coastal areas of the state. A red alert has been issued for Prakasam, Nellore, Kadapa, Annamalai, Tirupati, and Chittoor districts on November 30. Fishermen have been strictly warned not to venture into the sea. Farmers have been advised to exercise caution.
