IMA calls for 24 hour strike on August 17 against Kolkata horror

The Indian Medical Association has announced a 24-hour strike starting 6 am on August 17 in protest against the horrific rape and murder of a female resident doctor in Kolkata.

Under which doctors of government and private hospitals will be on strike from 6 am on Saturday to 6 am on Sunday. Doctors associated with the Provincial Medical Health Services Association (PMHS) will also be on strike during this period. However, emergency, post-mortem and VIP duty will continue as usual during the strike. OPD and elective surgeries will not be done during this period.

The Provincial Medical Health Services Association held an online meeting on Friday. In which it was decided that a strike will be held on Saturday in protest against the Kolkata incident. The association sent a memorandum in which it demanded intervention from the Prime Minister through the government. They informed the government that doctors and nursing staff provide services 24 hours a day in the district, sub-district hospitals, community health centers, primary health centers of the state. But, there is no concrete measure for the safety of women doctors and nurses during night duty. There is not even a duty room in the hospitals.

Doctors took out a candle march

Doctors of Doon, angry with the Kolkata incident, took out a candle march on Friday evening. PG, resident doctors and MBBS students of Doon Medical College and SGRR Medical College participated in this candle march which started from Doon Medical College located in Patel Nagar.

The candle march ended at Lalpul and then again at Doon Medical College Gate. After which the doctors prayed for the peace of the soul of the deceased lady doctor. Also, they took a pledge to punish the criminals who committed the heinous crime against the lady doctor.
