India suspends Indus water treaty in response to terror attack in J&K

There is an atmosphere of anger in the whole country after the cowardly terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. 26 people were killed in the terrorist attack targeting tourists on Tuesday. PM Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh are continuously meeting with officials on this issue. PM Modi held a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) for about 2 hours on Wednesday and decided to take several strict actions against Pakistan. The Indian Foreign Ministry has also held a press conference regarding action against Pakistan in protest against the Pahalgam terrorist and has given information about this.
India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, while addressing the press conference, said that the Indus River Water Treaty between India and Pakistan has been stopped.
The second important decision of the CCS is to close the Attari check post located on the border of Punjab with immediate effect. Pakistani citizens who have entered India through the Attari border have been asked to return by May 1, 2025.
Thirdly, the decision is that the exemption of those citizens of Pakistan who have been given the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES) to come to India has been abolished. The visas given to Pakistani citizens under this scheme have been cancelled.
This scheme was in force since 1992, under which special citizens of Pakistan (journalists, industrialists, artists, politicians etc.) are allowed to come to India under special facility. India has said that if any Pakistani citizen is in India under the said visa scheme, then they will have to leave India within 48 hours.
The fourth decision of the CCS is that India has declared the military, naval and air force advisors in the Pakistani High Commission as person non grata. These advisors have been ordered to leave India within a week.
Along with this, India has also called back the officers posted on these posts from its embassy in Islamabad. It has also been decided to call back five assistant staff from both the High Commissions.

The fifth and final decision of the CS is that the number of employees of the Pakistan High Commission has been reduced from 55 to 30. In a way, India has further reduced the state level of Pakistan. In the year 2019, when India abolished Article 370 from Kashmir, after that Pakistan had called back its High Commission. India had also done the same.
Army put on high alert
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said in a press conference- “The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) has reviewed the security situation. Along with this, all forces have been asked to maintain high level of alertness. The CCS has resolved that the perpetrators of the Pahalgam terror attack will be brought to justice and their sponsors will also be held accountable. Like the recent extradition of Tahawwur Rana, India will continue to relentlessly search for those who have committed terrorist acts or conspired to make them possible.” He also said that this terrorist attack has been carried out due to fear of successful elections, economic growth and development in Jammu and Kashmir.
