Mallikarjun Kharge to be new Congress President

Congress got its first non-Gandhi president after 24 years. Senior leader Mallikarjun Kharge has won the election of the new Congress President. He defeated Shashi Tharoor by a huge margin.
Kharge has won by a huge margin. In the election fray for the post of Speaker, Congress’s Lok Sabha MP Shashi Tharoor was in front of Kharge.

Even before the formal announcement of Kharge’s victory, Tharoor accepted his defeat and congratulated him. Shashi Tharoor congratulated Kharge and said, ‘Being the President of Congress is a great honor and a great responsibility. I wish Kharge ji success in this. Tharoor further said that it was a privilege for me to have the support of over a thousand allies and to carry forward the hopes and aspirations of so many Congress well wishers across India.’
