Modi government tables general category 10% reservation bill in Lok Sabha
Prior to the Lok Sabha elections, the Narendra Modi government led central government has reached out to the general category by proposing 10 percent reservation on economic basis. This decision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is being considered as a masterstroke before the election. Under this decision, 10% reservation will be given to the upper castes in the field of government jobs and education. After the cabinet stamped, the constitution amendment bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha today.
Union minister Thavarchand Gehlot introduced the Amendment Bill. After two o’clock in the afternoon, the bill will be debated in the House. The Bharatiya Janata Party had issued a notice to all its MPs to be present in the House, whereas the Congress had already issued Whip for its MPs to attend Monday and Tuesday.
The big challenge before the government in Parliament
The winter session of the Parliament was completely spent in a rage over the alleged disturbances in the Rafael Aircraft deal. Now today is the last day of the session, in such a way it is a challenge of passing this bill in front of the government. That too when the opposition is completely aggressive. Assuming the sources, the Modi government can also consider setting extending the session to pass this bill.
It is also worth noting that if the government has to implement the Constitution Amendment Bill, it is necessary to pass it both in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. The NDA government has a majority in the Lok Sabha but the position of the opposition in the Rajya Sabha is strong. In such a situation, the government’s decision will be a tested.
What is the General Category reservation bill?
In the Union Cabinet meeting on Monday, it has been decided that 10 percent reservation will now be given to the upper castes. These reservations will be given to economically weaker sections. As per the sources, the reservation can be provided to people having annual income less than 8 lakh and less than 5 acres of land.
