Monsoon reaches Kerala, likely to reach Delhi by June 27

A red alert for heatwave has been issued in 7 states of the country on Thursday (May 30). These include Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, parts of Rajasthan, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha. There is an orange alert in Uttar Pradesh, parts of Madhya Pradesh, Jammu division, Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh.

There is news of relief amid the scorching heat in the northwestern states. Monsoon has reached Kerala. Along with this, monsoon has also simultaneously entered Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Manipur and Assam. Monsoon is expected to arrive in Delhi by June 27.

This time the monsoon has arrived a day before the forecast. IMD had predicted its arrival in Kerala by May 31. The reason for the early arrival of monsoon is said to be the Remal cyclone, which hit West Bengal and Bangladesh on May 26.

Earlier on May 30, 2017, the monsoon arrived ahead of time due to Cyclone Mora. In 2023, the monsoon entered Kerala on June 8 after a delay of seven days. ​Monsoon usually enters Kerala on June 1 and covers most of the country by June 5.

First death due to heat in Delhi

On the other hand, the first death due to heatstroke in Delhi was recorded today. A 40-year-old man died at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital. He was admitted on Monday (May 27) night. The doctor said that he was living in a room without a cooler or fan and had high fever.

According to the doctor, the body temperature of the deceased had reached 107 degrees Fahrenheit, which is about 10 degrees more than normal. The person was a resident of Darbhanga in Bihar and worked as a laborer in Delhi.

On Wednesday (May 29), the temperature in different places in Delhi ranged from 45.2 degrees to 49.1 degrees. However, yesterday afternoon, the IMD had informed that the temperature in Mungeshpur, Delhi had reached 52.3 degrees. Although at night it was told that the data of 52.3 degrees might not be official.

On Wednesday (29 May), maximum temperatures of 45 degrees Celsius or above were recorded in 11 cities of the country including Delhi. The highest temperature of 48.8 degrees was recorded in Rohtak, Haryana. The temperature at Delhi Ridge was 47.3 degrees.
