‘Toxic’ pollution rises in Delhi, AQI crosses 200

The weather of Delhi is constantly changing. The level of pollution is also increasing with the cold of morning and evening. Along with Delhi, the level of pollution is also increasing rapidly in the surrounding cities. This morning, the AQI level of Delhi was 217, which is considered bad. If the situation continues to deteriorate at this pace, then after a few days there will be suffocating conditions in Delhi. In Delhi, the level of pollution has been increasing significantly in November-December for the last few years, due to which people have to face a lot of trouble.

Pollution is increasing rapidly in Delhi-NCR

The pollution level i.e. AQI level was recorded at 217 in Delhi at 5 am today. AQI was recorded at 232 in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, 238 in Greater Noida, 218 in Ghaziabad and 257 in Hapur. The AQI reached 213 in Charkhi Dadri, Haryana, while the pollution level in Bhiwadi, Rajasthan reached 210. The AQI level between 201 to 300 falls in the poor category. Whereas, this situation becomes very bad from 301 to 400. It becomes difficult to breathe when the AQI level reaches 401 to 500. In such a situation, Delhi turns into a gas chamber.

GRAP-1 implemented as pollution increases in Delhi

Amidst the increasing air pollution in Delhi, the government has also come into alert mode and has implemented level one of GRAP. The Center’s Air Pollution Control Committee for Delhi-NCR on Monday directed the state governments of the region to implement the first phase of the Gradual Response Action Plan (GRAP-1). The air quality in Delhi is in the ‘poor’ category for the third consecutive day. After the implementation of Level-1 of GRAP, now there will be an emphasis on controlling pollution in Delhi through dust mitigation at construction sites, proper waste management and regular cleaning of roads. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), till 4 pm on Monday, Delhi’s 24-hour average air quality index was 234 (poor category). The official statement said that the sub-committee of the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) reviewed the current air quality and decided to implement the first phase of GRAP.
