Outrage against sexual assault of a minor, Tallital market closed
The lake city of Nainital has been disturbed since Wednesday night. When the news of a 73-year-old man being accused of raping a 12-year-old girl spread in Nainital late Wednesday evening, angry people took to the streets. There was a lot of uproar, vandalism and demonstrations late at night. The police took the accused into custody. The protesters were demanding that he be handed over to them.
The atmosphere in Nainital has remained tense since an incident that took place last night. Since morning, the police have issued an alert regarding security arrangements, while the Tallital Vyapar Mandal announced a symbolic shutdown till 12 noon after a morning meeting as a protest. The traders sat on a dharna in the market itself.
Communal tension spread in Nainital on Wednesday. There was a lot of uproar on the streets from around 9:30 pm to 12:30 pm. An old contractor was accused of raping a minor. The news of the misdeed spread like fire in the city. The crowd gathered on the streets of Mallital. After this, communal tensions escalated in the hill town. Those who protested were chased and beaten. The police had to use lathis to stop the people who were vandalizing cars and property. After this, the crowd dispersed.

The entire market was closed when the atmosphere of the city deteriorated. Seeing the situation of communal tension, a heavy police force reached the spot. The crowd surrounded the Mallital police station demanding to hand over the arrested accused to them.
