Rain wrecks havoc in Kumaon region
In the hilly areas of Uttarakhand, unseasonal rains have wrecked havoc. So far 15 people have died due to rain in Kumaon on Tuesday. While there were five deaths in the state on Monday. Cloud burst was reported in Doshapani and Tishapani in Dhari tehsil in Ramgarh of Nainital district on Tuesday morning. During this, the retaining wall on the workers’ hut collapsed. Seven people were buried under the rubble. From which bodies of people have been recovered. On the other hand, two people died due to stone falling in the hut in Khairna. A youth died after being buried under the rubble in Telwara, Champawat.
Ten people are reported to have died due to the collapse of a house in a village in Ramgarh block of Nainital district. In Chaukhuta village of Dhari tehsil, six people of the same family were crushed to death in the house which came under the grip of the landslide. At the same time, water has entered a resort in Ramnagar. It is being told that many people are trapped inside the resort.
In Nainital the water of the lake is overflowing. At Kathgodam railway station, about 100 meters of area got washed away in the Gaula river. Trains have been canceled due to waterlogging. Dozens of mountain roads have been closed due to debris.
District Magistrate Dhiraj Garbyal said that the movement of vehicles towards Nainital has been stopped. All the people living on the banks of the lake have been alerted. Concerned officials are engaged in relief work. JCB has been sent to open all the three roads of the hill town.
