In the first Municipal Corporation elections, independent candidate Aarti Bhandari has been elected as the Mayor of Srinagar, dist Pauri. She defeated BJP candidate Asha Upadhyay by 1639 votes. Independent candidate Aarti got 7956 votes and BJP candidate Asha got 6317 votes.
In the election, Congress’ Meena Rawat got 2075 votes, UKD candidate Saraswati Devi got 243 votes and independent candidate Poonam Tiwari stood third with 2632 votes. 90 voters used NOTA, while 483 votes were rejected. The total number of valid votes for the Mayor was 19320, while a total of 19803 votes were cast.
We will make Srinagar a green city: Aarti Bhandari
The newly elected Mayor of Municipal Corporation Srinagar Aarti Bhandari has thanked the voters for her victory. She said that she will live up to the expectations on which the voters have given their precious votes to her. She said that grand parking will be constructed at 20 places. Special schemes will be implemented to make Srinagar a ‘green city’. Special attention will be paid to cleanliness by disposing of garbage and dustbins from the middle of the city.
She said that guaranteeing the safety of daughters, a safe environment will be ensured for women in the city. All the roads and routes of Srinagar will be made pothole-free, construction of a grand cowshed for stray animals in the city, re-establishment of GITI ground as a stadium, development of scenic places of the city as tourist hubs, implementation of Alaknanda River Front Development Scheme, construction of multiplex and auditorium in the city will be his priority.
