Pithoragarh-Tanakpur highway blocked for 8 hours due to landslide

The road was closed for eight hours after landslide near the Chalthi in Tanakpur-Pithoragarh National Highway. The contractor’s Pokland machine got buried under the debris from the landslide. The company incharge of the work on the highway cleared the route by removing the debris in the morning.

Continuous cutting of the mountain is being done by the operating company under the construction of All Weather Road. There is a problem of landslides due to cutting of the rocks. In the past, DM also ordered the companies to do vertical cutting during inspection.

On Saturday evening, the contractor of the RGB company was cutting the mountain about one kilometer from Chalthi. After the machine stopped working, he left it on the site. At around two o’clock in the night, landslides suddenly happened. The JCB standing on the side of the debris reached the other side of the road. At six o’clock in the morning, the contractor started work on the removal of debris by placing four Pokeland and three JCBs. During this time, the long queue of vehicles coming from Tanakpur and Champawat after five o’clock in the morning took place on either side of the debris.
