Scientists discover underground cave on moon

After Earth, Mars and the Moon have always been interesting subjects for scientists & astronomers. After touching the moon and landing spacecraft on it, efforts are now underway to settle people there. From time to time, many interesting information about the moon has been coming to light. Now scientists have confirmed the existence of an underground cave conduit on the moon. This cave is not far from the place where astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed Apollo 11 55 years ago in 1969. Scientists have found a 100 meter long cave here, which can prove to be a permanent home for humans in the future.

A team led by Italian scientists said on Monday that evidence of a large cave on the moon has been found. This cave is located in the Sea of Tranquility, just 250 miles (400 kilometers) from the landing point of Apollo 11. According to scientists, there may be hundreds of such caves on the moon, in which astronauts can take shelter in the future.

Who discovered the cave on the moon?

Lorenzo Bruzzone and Leonardo Carrer of the University of Trento, Italy, have discovered this cave on the moon with the help of radar. Using radar, they tried to look inside a hole on the rocky surface of the moon. This cave is so huge that it can be seen from the earth without any equipment. The cave has a skylight towards the surface of the moon, which probably goes further underground.

NASA aims to build a semi-permanent crew base on the moon

The US space agency NASA aims to build a semi-permanent crew base on the moon. China and Russia have also shown interest in building a lunar research outpost. But, a permanent lunar base can only be set up in an environment safe from cosmic radiation and with a stable temperature.

NASA believes that in the future it may be possible to live in moon caves. These caves would essentially be lava tubes, which are also found on Earth. Lava tubes are formed when molten lava flows beneath solid lava or a crust forms above flowing lava. This creates a hollow tunnel.

It is believed that such caves could form an emergency lunar shelter, as astronauts would be protected from harmful cosmic radiation, solar radiation and micro meteorites.
