IIT Roorkee to continue online classes till December

Online classes will be conducted at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee till December. The institution has taken this decision in view of the outbreak of the Corona pandemic. When the students return to the campus, it will be decided only on the basis of the guidelines provided by the government and the Ministry of Education.

Offline classes at IIT Roorkee were postponed before the lockdown took place in March due to the Corona pandemic. On March 24, regular classes were completely shut down after the lockdown. Many students had already left for home due to the risk of corona infection. Those who remained on campus during the lockdown also went home when unlock phase began.

During this time the institute continued the spring semester using online learning methods. Along with this, several special provisions were also made, changing the rules to complete the semester. Under this, the final grading was given to the students on the completion of the semester, based on performance in mid-semester examinations and evaluation done during online teaching.

The corona virus outbreak is still not showing any signs of slowing down. In such a situation, the institute’s governing body has decided to get all the students’ classes online by December, except for B.Tech first year admission. These will include BTech II, III and IV year, MTech, MSc, MBA and PhD classes. Dean of IIT Roorkee Academic Affairs Prof. NP Padhy said that the Senate has decided to run online classes by December 2020 in view of Covid-19. The decision of the students to come to the campus will be taken only after getting the guidelines from the government and education ministry.
