Alcaraz defeats Sinner to win US Open 2025

World number 2 Carlos Alcaraz defeated world number 1 Jannik Sinner in the final of the US Open 2025 to win his sixth Grand Slam title. With this, he also snatched the World Number 1 crown from Sinner. Alcaraz won the US Open title for the second time, before this he had won this trophy in 2022.

In this final match played in New York, Spanish player Alcaraz started brilliantly and won the first set 6-2. In the second set, Sinner made a comeback and won 6-3. Alcaraz dominated in the third set and won the set 6-1, losing just one game. Sinner fought hard in the fourth set, but Alcaraz won 6-4 and won the title.

Before the US Open, both the players also faced each other in the final of the Cincinnati Masters. In that match, Sinner had to leave the match midway due to injury and Alcaraz became the champion.

This was the third Grand Slam final of the year in which Alcaraz and Sinner faced each other. Alcaraz emerged victorious in the French Open final in June, while Sinner defeated Alcaraz in the Wimbledon final in July.

Alcaraz and Sinner have shared the last eight Grand Slam trophies. Out of the last 13 Grand Slams, 10 titles have been won by these two players. So far, Alcaraz has won 6 and Sinner has won 4 Grand Slams.

Sinner became the fourth player to play all four Grand Slam finals in a year

Sinner has reached his fifth consecutive Grand Slam final, which started with the 2024 US Open. He became the fourth player to reach the finals of all four Grand Slams in a year. Before him, Rod Laver (1969), Roger Federer (2006, 2007, 2008) and Novak Djokovic (2015, 2021, 2023) have achieved this feat.
