Arjun Erigaisi wins bronze medal at the World Rapid Championship

In the recently concluded World Chess Championship in Doha, young Indian chess player Arjun Erigaisi delivered a stellar performance. He won the bronze medal in the FIDE World Rapid Championship. He scored 9.5 points in the tournament, just one point less than World Rapid Champion Magnus Carlsen. Arjun lost only two of his 13 matches in the entire event. He suffered one defeat against silver medalist Vladislav Artemiev, and the other against Turkish player Yağız Kaan Erdoğmuş. Arjun was one of four players who finished with 9.5 points, but ultimately had to settle for the bronze medal. Arjun Erigaisi has become the second Indian after the legendary Viswanathan Anand to win a medal at the World Rapid Chess Championship.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also congratulated Arjun on his remarkable achievement. “Proud of Arjun Erigaisi for winning the Bronze Medal in the Open section of the FIDE World Rapid Chess Championship in Doha. His dedication is commendable. Best wishes to him for his future endeavors,” PM Modi tweeted.
