Ashwin completes 500 test wickets

Indian team’s premier off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin achieved a big achievement on Friday 16 February. Ashwin has become the second bowler for India to take 500 wickets in Test cricket. Former team mate, Sachin Tendulkar was quick to congratulate Ashwin for his feat. Before Ashwin, only Anil Kumble had done this feat for India. Anil Kumble holds the record of taking 619 wickets in Test cricket.

Sachin Tendulkar, the only batsman in the world to score 51 centuries in Test cricket and play 200 Test matches, made a post on Instagram after Ashwin reached this milestone. While sharing Ashwin’s picture, he wrote, “500 Test wickets for a one-in-a-million bowler! In AshWIN the SpinNER, there was always a WINNER. 500 wickets is a huge milestone in Test cricket. Congratulations, Champion!”

As soon as Ashwin got England’s opener Zak Crawley caught out by Rajat Patidar on the second day of the third Test match being played at Niranjan Shah Cricket Stadium in Rajkot. Likewise, he joined the list of bowlers who have taken 500 Test wickets. He is the 9th bowler in the world to do so. Ashwin had taken 499 wickets in Visakhapatnam itself, but he did not get the last wicket in that match.

Off-spinner Ashwin has managed to take 500 Test wickets in fewer balls than leg-spinner Anil Kumble. He has become the fastest bowler for India to take 100, 200, 300, 400 and now 500 wickets.
