Asian Para Games 2023: India finishes 5th with 111 medals

Indian para athletes created history on Saturday when they ended their campaign at the Hangzhou Asian Para Games 2023 with 111 medals, the biggest achievement for the country in any major international multi-sport event. Para athletes won a total of 111 medals with 29 gold, 31 silver and 51 bronze.
Surpasses 107 medals won in Asian Games
Indian para athletes won four more medals than the record of 107 medals won by India at the Hangzhou Asian Games held from September 23 to October 8. India had also made a record in the Asian Games by winning more than 100 medals. India had entered the Asian Games with the target of crossing 100 medals. Now India also created history in the Para Asian Games and won more than 100 medals. The previous record in the Para Asian Games was 72 medals.

India finished fifth in Para Asian Games
In the medal table, China (521 medals: 214 gold, 167 silver, 140 bronze) topped followed by Iran (44 gold, 46 silver, 41 bronze), Japan (42 gold, 49 bronze, 59 bronze, South Korea (30 gold, 33 silver, 40 bronze) and India (29 gold, 31 silver, 51 bronze) which is a remarkable achievement. The first Para Asian Games was held in Guangzhou, China in 2010, where India finished 15th with 14 medals, including one gold. In the 2014 and 2018 editions, India finished 15th and 9th respectively.
