Badminton World Rankings: Lakshya Sen breaks into top-10
India’s star shuttler Lakshya Sen has reached the top-10 in the BWF World Rankings. Lakshya, who had lost in the final of the All England Badminton Championships, had to be content with a silver medal. Lakshya gained the rankings as he reached the final. The pair of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand have also benefited in the latest rankings released on Tuesday (March 22). Both have achieved career best rankings.
The 20-year-old, who hails from Uttarakhand, became the fifth Indian to reach the All England final. Had he won the title, he would have become the third Indian player to be crowned champion in the tournament. Lakshya has gained two places in the rankings. He moved from 11th to 9th.
Lakshya has 74,786 ranking points. He surpassed current world champion Loh Kean Yew of Singapore. Sen lost in the All England final to Olympic champion and world number one Viktor Axelsen of Denmark in straight games.
Former world junior number one player Lakshya Sen is India’s number one male badminton player. He had recently left behind Kidambi Srikanth. Srikanth had slipped to the 12th position. Sen has withdrawn from the Swiss Open. He decided not to play in the tournament due to fatigue.
