India 8 steps away from levelling the series, England 324 runs behind from victory in 5th Test

India seems to be ahead in the fifth match of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy Test being played at The Oval. Because on the third day, Team India performed brilliantly and scored 396 runs in their second innings. Due to which England got a huge target of 374 runs to win.

After that, the host team got into trouble after losing the wicket of Zak Crawley on the last ball of the third day while chasing 374 runs. Mohammad Siraj sent Crawley to the pavilion with a brilliant yorker. Due to which England’s score became 50 runs for 1 wicket in 13.5 overs. England still needs 324 more runs to win this match and win the series.

While India needs to take 8 wickets to win this match. Because one of their players Chris Woakes is out of the match due to a shoulder injury. Apart from this, 374 runs have not yet been chased in the fourth innings on this ground. Therefore, India has a golden opportunity to win this match and level the series.

Third day of fifth Test in India’s name

Talking about the third day’s play, this day was completely in India’s name. Akashdeep, who came as a night watchman, played an suprise innings of 66 runs, which was his first Test half-century and his highest first class score. He was aptly supported by Yashasvi Jaiswal at the other end who played an innings of 118 runs, which was his sixth Test century. Jaiswal played an innings of 118 runs with the help of 14 fours and two sixes in 164 balls, which was very important due to his parents and elder brother being present in the stands of the stadium, where ODI captain Rohit Sharma was also watching the match.

Jadeja-Sundar also hit half-century

Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar also showed their prowess with the bat. Both played innings of 53-53 runs. While Jadeja scored 53 runs in 77 balls, Sundar scored 53 runs in just 46 balls with the help of 4 fours and 4 sixes. In the process Jadeja went past the likes Gavaskar and Kohli in scoring the most number of fifties in a 5 match series against England. The southpaw also went past 500 runs in the series, further cementing his place as the top ranked all rounder in the world. Washington followed up his unbeaten century from the last test with a quick fire half century which included 4 boundaries and as many sixes.

Josh Tongue took 5 wickets

For England, Josh Tongue took 5 wickets for 125 runs, while Gus Atkinson took 3 and Jamie Overton took 2 wickets. In an attempt to chase the target of 374 runs in the last session of the day and seal the series with a score of 3-1, England performed well till the last hour, with Ben Duckett remaining unbeaten on 34. But Siraj dismissed Crawley for 14 runs. After which the play was ended on the third day.
