India wins maiden Test in Birmingham

The Indian cricket team defeated England by record 336 runs in the second Test match played at Edgbaston Ground in Birmingham. With this, the five-match series has been tied at 1-1.
Chasing a target of 608 runs, England’s team was all out for 271 runs on the last day of the match. This is India’s biggest win in terms of runs on English soil so far. The previous record was of victory by 279 runs. India defeated the three lions by this margin in Leeds in 1986. Also, India has achieved its first victory in Birmingham in 58 years. Earlier, out of the 8 Tests played here, India had lost 7 and 1 match was drawn.
On the last day of the match, England started playing ahead with a score of 72 runs for three wickets. The match started with a delay of about 90 minutes due to rain. By lunch, the hosts lost three more wickets. The remaining four wickets fell in the second session. For India, Akash Deep took 6 wickets, Mohammad Siraj, Washington Sundar, Prasidh Krishna and Ravindra Jadeja took one wicket each.
India lost the toss and batted first and scored 587 runs in the first innings. Shubman Gill played an innings of 269 runs. In reply, England’s first innings ended on 407 runs. India declared their second innings at a score of 427 runs for 6 wickets. Gill was again the top scorer and scored 161 runs. He was the Player of the Match. He scored 430 runs in both innings of this match, while Akash Deep took 10 wickets.
This is proving to be a dream series for Indian captain Shubman Gill. Gill has scored 585 runs so far in two Test matches. In the second Test, all the English bowlers looked helpless in front of Gill. Gill scored 269 runs off 387 balls in the first innings. In this innings, the Indian skipper spent 8 hours, 29 minutes at the crease. In the second innings, he batted even more aggressively and scored 161 runs in 162 balls. Gill hit 43 fours and 11 sixes in the match.
