Jaspril Bumrah, Smriti Mandhana win Wisden Cricketer of the Year

Indian star pacer Jasprit Bumrah and women cricketer Smriti Mandhana have been honoured with the Wisden Cricketers Almanac 2025.

Bumrah has been declared the best cricketer in the male category and Mandhana in the women’s category. At the same time, the honour of Best T20 Cricketer has been given to West Indies wicketkeeper Nicholas Pooran.

This award is being given since 1889

The Wisden Cricketer of the Year Award is the oldest individual award in cricket. Wisden has been releasing this list every year since 1889, the selection of which is done on the basis of performance in the previous season. No player can win this award more than once.

Bumrah was called Star of the Year by Wisden editor Laurent Booth. Last year, Bumrah became the first Test bowler in history to take 200 wickets in Test cricket at an average of less than 20. Bumrah has so far taken 204 wickets in 45 Test matches at an average of 19.40.

At the same time, he played an important role in India’s victory in the T20 World Cup held in West Indies and America in June 2024. In the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Bumrah alone took 32 wickets at an average of 13.06. Booth also claimed Bumrah to be considered the greatest player of all time.

Mandhana scored more than 1600 runs in all formats in 2024

Smriti Mandhana has been named as the best female player in the world by Wisden. She scored 1659 runs in all formats in 2024, which is the highest number of runs scored by a female player in a calendar year of international cricket. This also includes four centuries in ODIs. At the same time, Mandhana scored her second Test century (149) in a ten-wicket win against South Africa in June last year.
