National Games 2025 Day 5: Uttarakhand at 19th place with 19 medals

Uttarakhand has got a bronze medal in weightlifting in the National Games on Day 5. Vivek Pandey won the bronze medal in the men’s 109 and above kg weight category. With this, the state is ranked 19th in the medal tally with 19 medals so far.
In weightlifting men plus 109 kg, Vivek of Uttarakhand won the bronze medal for the state by lifting 280 kg. Vivek, a resident of Tanakpur, started weightlifting two years ago.
However, his focus was on fitness from the age of 12. Earlier in the year 2022, he won the gold medal in the Power Weightlifting Competition held in Chhattisgarh. At the same time, two bronze and two silver medals are confirmed in badminton.
So many medals won in these sports so far
Uttarakhand has performed well in Wushu, Badminton, Weightlifting, Handball and Yogasana. In Wushu, the state has got the highest number of 12 medals including one gold. While two silver medals have been received in badminton, one silver in handball and one silver in yogasana. Now the state is expecting medals in sports like boxing, canoeing and kayaking, athletics etc.
Vivek’s success has given the state a new identity in the field of weightlifting, inspired by his medal, more youth of Uttarakhand will be attracted towards this sport.

The overall winner of the National Games is awarded the Raja Bhalindra Singh Trophy for each edition. The champion state is judged based on points scored – which are earned based on finishing positions in the events.
