New Zealand wins test series against India; win 2nd test by 113 runs

The second match of the three-match Test series between India and New Zealand was played in Pune. New Zealand scored 259 runs in their first innings after winning the toss and batting first. In reply, India’s first innings was reduced to 156 runs. New Zealand scored 255 runs in their second innings and set a target of 359 runs for India. In reply, Team India’s second innings was reduced to 245 runs.

New Zealand won the second Test by 113 runs. They defeated India within three days. Along with this, they have also gained an unassailable lead of 2-0 in the three-match Test series. Chasing the target of 359 runs, India’s second innings was reduced to 245 runs. New Zealand scored 259 runs in their first innings after winning the toss and batting first. In reply, India’s first innings was ended at 156 runs. New Zealand came out to bat with a lead of 103 runs in the second innings and scored 255 runs in their second innings. In this way, they got a total lead of 358 runs.

Yashasvi Jaiswal scored the highest 77 runs for India. Apart from this, Ravindra Jadeja played an innings of 42 runs. Apart from these two, no batsman could touch the 25+ mark. Captain Rohit Sharma was dismissed for eight runs, Shubman Gill 23 runs, Virat Kohli 17 runs, Rishabh Pant without opening the account, Sarfaraz Khan nine runs and Ravichandran Ashwin 18 runs. Akash Deep could score one run and Jasprit Bumrah remained unbeaten after scoring 10 runs.

This is India’s first defeat in a series at home since 2012. New Zealand is the fourth team to win a Test series in India since the year 2000. Earlier, South Africa, Australia and England had done so. With this, Team India’s streak of winning the most consecutive series of 18 at home was also broken. For New Zealand, Mitchell Santner took seven wickets in the first innings and six in the second innings. The visitors had earlier defeated team India by 8 wickets in the first Test in Bengaluru.
