Punjab Kings defeat Mumbai in league match; enter Qualifier 1

Punjab Kings (PBKS) defeated Mumbai Indians (MI) by 7 wickets in the 69th match of IPL 2025. With this, the team has confirmed its place in the top-2 of the points table in the current season. Currently, the team is at the top of the table with 19 points. Punjab will now play Qualifier-1 on 29 May. On the other hand, after this defeat, Mumbai will have to play the Eliminator on 30 May.
Punjab won the toss and chose to bowl at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. Mumbai scored 184 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 20 overs. Punjab has achieved the target of 185 runs in 18.3 overs for three wickets. Captain Shreyas Iyer led the team to victory by hitting a six off Trent Boult. He returned unbeaten after scoring 26 runs off 16 balls. Josh Inglis (73 runs) and Priyansh Arya (62 runs) scored fifties. Both made a century partnership. Mitchell Santner took two wickets. Jasprit Bumrah got one wicket.
For Mumbai, Suryakumar Yadav played an innings of 57 runs in 39 balls. He hit 6 fours and 2 sixes. The remaining batsmen could not cross the 30-run mark. In the process he also broke Sachin Tendular’s long standing record of scoring most runs for Mumbai in a season. Punjab’s Arshdeep Singh, Marco Jansen and Vijaykumar Vaishakh got 2-2 wickets each.
In the final league match on 27 May RCB will take on LSG to determine the other team to play in qualifier 1.
