South Africa wins WTC Final 2025

South Africa has won the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025. The team defeated defending champion Australia by 5 wickets on Saturday, June 14.

South Africa has become the world champion for the first time in any format of cricket. Not only this, the team has won an ICC tournament after 27 years. The team won the Champions Trophy in 1998.

South Africa achieved the target of 282 runs for the loss of 5 wickets before lunch on the fourth day of the match at Lord’s Stadium in London. Aiden Markram top scored with 136 runs, while Temba Bavuma scored 66 runs.

Kyle Verreynne took a single against Mitchell Starc in the 84th over and gave his team a historic victory. He remained not out with David Bedingham (21 runs) after scoring 4 runs. Aiden Markram was the Player of the Match.

Australia had given South Africa a target of 282 runs by scoring 218 runs in the second innings. In the first innings, Australia scored 212 and South Africa scored 138 and got a lead of 74 runs.

Second biggest run chase at Lord’s

This is the second biggest run chase in Test history at Lord’s. Before this match, a score of more than 200 runs in the fourth innings was chased here only four times. Now South Africa has also done this feat. The record of the biggest run chase on this ground is in the name of West Indies. In 1984, West Indies chased a target of 342 runs in the fourth innings against England. England won by scoring only 282 runs against New Zealand in 2004.
