Tokyo Olympics 2020: Torch lit at Olympia
The torch of the Tokyo Olympics was lit at the ancient Olympia on Thursday. At 12.10 pm local time on Thursday, Greece actress Xanthi Georgiou lit the flame from the sun’s rays using the Concave mirror, playing the role of the ancient Greek high priestess.
No one was allowed to attend this ceremony due to the increasing danger of coronavirus COVID-19. This flame from ancient Olympia will travel to Greece for eight days and then it will be handed over to the organizers of Tokyo 2020.
The ceremony will take place on 19 March at the Panathenaic Stadium, where the first modern Olympics were played. The torch will travel all over the world and reach Japan at the end of July, where the Olympic Games will be held from July 24 to August 9. Japan had earlier hosted the Olympics in 1964 as well.
Due to the increasing threat of Corona virus, many sports events have been canceled. There has also been a question mark over the Olympic event, which is to be held in Tokyo, Japan, in July-August this year.
