Tokyo Paralympics: Krishna Nagar gives India 5th Gold medal

Krishna Nagar has created history by winning the gold medal in the Tokyo Paralympics. In the SL6 class final, Krishna Nagar defeated Chu Man Kai of Hong Kong 21-17, 16-21, 21-17. This is India’s fourth medal in badminton at the Tokyo Paralympics. This is India’s 5th gold at the Tokyo Paralympics. Prior to Krishna, Pramod Bhagat has won Gold, Suhas Yathiraj Silver and Manoj Sarkar Bronze medals in badminton.

With this, India’s medal tally in the Tokyo Olympics has gone up to 19. India has so far won 5 gold, 8 silver and 6 bronze medals. India has won five medals in shooting and four in badminton at the Tokyo Paralympics.

Krishna 8th Indian to win Gold in Paralympic Games

This is India’s 5th gold medal at the Tokyo Paralympics. Prior to Krishna in Tokyo Paralympics, Pramod Bhagat (badminton), Manish Narwal (shooting), Sumit Antil (javelin throw) and Avani Lekhra (shooting) have given India gold. Krishna Nagar is only 8th Indian player to win gold in Paralympic Games. Murlikant Petkar won India’s first gold in Paralympic Games in 1972. After this, Devendra Jhajharia gave India gold in javelin throw in Athens Olympics 2004 and Rio Olympics 2016. Mariyappan Thangavelu won the gold medal in the high jump at the Rio Games.

On the last day of the Paralympic Games being played inĀ  Japan’s capital,Tokyo, the Indian players continued their medal winning streak. On Sunday, Para badminton player Krishna Nagar won the gold in the SH6 category and put India’s 19th medal in the bag. With this, India has achieved a total of fifth gold medal in these games. This is India’s best performance till date.
