Wimbledon 2024: Carlos Alcaraz successful in title defense

Spain’s young tennis star Carlos Alcaraz won the Wimbledon title for the second consecutive year. 21-year-old Alcaraz won his fourth Grand Slam title by defeating 7-time champion Serbian legend Novak Djokovic 6-2, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) in straight sets in the men’s singles final. Repeating last year’s final, Alcaraz once again defeated Djokovic in the final and stopped him from winning Wimbledon for a record tying 8th time. Alcaraz has won this second consecutive Grand Slam this year. Just last month, he won the French Open title for the first time.

For 37-year-old Novak Djokovic, reaching the final of this tournament was once a distant dream. On June 3, during the French Open, he suffered an injury to his right knee, due to which he retired from the tournament. Then on June 5, he had to undergo surgery on his knee. In such a situation, Djokovic himself did not expect that he would be able to register any win in this tournament, let alone playing the final. Still, he showed grit and came close to the world record of winning the 25th Grand Slam.

Serbia’s Novak Djokovic’s dream of winning the 24th Grand Slam was shattered by Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz. This brilliant player, who was making a comeback after injury, was not given a chance to survive by the 21-year-old. 21-year-old Alcaraz maintained his record of winning all the finals and won another Grand Slam. Before this, Alcaraz is the youngest player to win Grand Slam trophies on grass, clay and hard courts.

Alcaraz dominated from the first game itself

Ultimately, fitness, age and most importantly – the tremendous form of 21-year-old Carlos Alcaraz came in the way of this record of Djokovic. In the first game itself, there was deuce 7 times, while there was a situation of break point 5 times. After this, Alcaraz did not give any chance to Djokovic and won the set 6-2. The same story was seen in the next set as well and this time too Djokovic had no answer to the energy of the young player. This time too Carlos Alcaraz won the set 6-2.

Defeated in tie-break

Then came the turn of the third set, in which Djokovic had a chance to make a comeback and take the match to the fourth set. This set saw the toughest competition and Djokovic put Alcaraz in trouble in his old style. At one time Alcaraz was leading 5-4 and was just 1 point away from the championship, but Djokovic saved the point 3 times in a row and won the game, bringing the match to a 5-5 level. After this the score became 6-6 and then the decision was made by tie-break, where Alcaraz won the title by winning 7-4.
