New Delhi: Canon has recently announced a range of new cameras in its PowerShot and IXUS series. Canon’s latest trio of high zoom PowerShot SX cameras are aces in the pocket, especially designed for every kind of travel. The new models in the IXUS series are targeted at consumers who desire a reliable, intuitive, point and shoot camera with superb image quality.
PowerShot
Ranging from 18x to 50x optical zoom and packed with intuitive framing and auto-zoom features, the PowerShot SX710 HS, SX610 HS and SX530 HS leaves plenty of room for travelers to take in the sights. Each model is designed to suit a specific type of traveler.
With sleek designs that fit snugly into pockets, the powerful lenses of the 30x zoom PowerShot SX710 HS and 18x zoom PowerShot SX610 HS will delight travelers seeking a compact camera that can go the distance. The new PowerShot SX530 HS is engineered for exceptional long-range photography with a 50x zoom lens and superior ergonomics that include a comfortable grip and a form factor designed for maximizing stability when zooming in for a shot.
Slim Compact series with up to 30x zoom; For travellers who value convenience and like to travel light, the PowerShot SX710 HS and PowerShot SX610 HS make ideal travel companions, epitomising performance with powerful zoom lenses in streamlined designs. The PowerShot SX710 HS boasts a 20.3 megapixel sensor with a long-reaching 30x, 25-750mm (35mm equivalent) zoom lens. Similarly, the PowerShot SX610 HS uses a 20.2 megapixel sensor and is equipped with an 18x, 25-450mm (35mm equivalent) zoom lens.
Powered by Canon’s advanced DIGIC 6 processor, coupled with the use of a 1/2.3 type (6.20 x 4.65 mm) CMOS sensor, the PowerShot SX710 HS captures high quality images through its zoom lens. On the other hand, the PowerShot SX610 HS runs on the DIGIC 4+ processor, with a 1/2.3 type (6.20 x 4.65 mm) CMOS sensor. With their advanced technological specifications and weighing in at approximately 269 g and 191 g respectively, the two cameras are some of the lightest and most high-performing cameras in its class.
The 30x optical zoom on the PowerShot SX710 HS offers high versatility when shooting a photo. At its wide 25mm view, a user can capture a tall building from a distance. At its maximum zoom range, a medium torso shot of a person standing at a window of the building is achievable. Using Canon’s ZoomPlus technology, the zoom can be magnified to 60x, allowing even closer range shooting of far-away subjects. For travellers, this long-range zoom is perfect for bridging distances and capturing close-up images of iconic structures or even distant mountain ranges.
Intelligent adjustments with enhanced Zoom Framing Assist and Auto Zoom: Working with such high-zoom levels can be tricky for amateur photographers, so Canon has incorporated the latest version of the intuitive Zoom Framing Assist function in the PowerShot SX710 HS. The enhanced Zoom Framing Assist analyses a shot and adjusts focal length accordingly. If it detects a portrait-like shot, it will zoom into the subject for a focused upper-body or head shot. If it detects more body movement, it will zoom out to capture the subject’s whole body. The Zoom Framing Assist function can even detect multiple subjects, and will adjust the magnification to fit the entire group into the frame.
The PowerShot SX610 HS features the new Auto Zoom mode. This newly improved feature detects the ideal zoom setting for each frame, which comes in handy when travellers need to ask a passerby unfamiliar with the camera’s zoom settings to take their photo.
Capturing sights and sounds in motion: Improved Dynamic IS on the PowerShot SX710 HS helps take crisp and stable video shots even without a tripod. Previous versions of Dynamic IS would detect the motion of a subject and counter that motion, but the latest version is able to detect the full 5-axis motion of the user and counter that as well. This means both the user and the subject can be walking or running, and the video will still be stabilized for comfortable viewing.
Additionally, the new Short Clip Movie feature on the PowerShot SX710 HS helps photographers capture a series of 4 to 6-second movie snippets with different play back speeds – normal-speed, fast motion, action replay or slow motion for stylistic effect. Once put together using the Story Highlights feature, previously available on the PowerShot N100, users are able to relive the best moments of the day. Photographers can also overlay their Story Highlights reel with music from three built-in background audio clips – turning your travel highlights into a fun little dynamic reel.
Bridging distances with the PowerShot SX530 HS: For incredible zoom distance and a stable grip, travellers may also opt for the PowerShot SX530 HS, a 16.0 megapixel camera with a 50x, 24-1200mm zoom lens. This is an incredible range for a camera of its size, allowing users to reach out and snap photos of distant subjects such as animals at a safari. Canon’s Zoom Plus technology extends its zoom range to 100x with almost no loss of quality. At such long ranges, stability is paramount and the PowerShot SX530 HS has been designed with a body that can be held with maximum grip, stability and comfort.
Supporting its powerful zoom lens are a 1/2.3 type (6.20 x 4.65 mm) 16.0 megapixel CMOS sensor and a DIGIC 4+ image processor. The combination of these two components ensures high quality photos with rich colors and crisp details. They also allow the PowerShot SX530 HS to take high quality Full HD 30p video clips encoded in MP4 format to ensure wide-ranging compatibility with popular video-sharing sites such as YouTube and Facebook.
Greater connectivity with NFC: For advanced connectivity to quickly share travel photos and videos, the new PowerShot trios are equipped with new Wi-Fi features and Near Field Communication (NFC) technology. NFC makes it possible for the cameras to instantly connect to NFC-enabled devices such as smartphones and tablets simply by tapping them together.
Once connected, the PowerShot SX530 HS works seamlessly with the Canon Camera Window app on smart phones. For PowerShot SX710 HS and SX610 HS, the new Camera Connect app integrates smart phones, from which users are able to transfer images, or perform remote shooting. Once connected to a wireless network, the camera is able to sync images to Canon Image Gateway (CiG). These images can now be viewed on computers and smartphones via the cloud server even at a remote location. They can also be easily uploaded to popular social media services such as YouTube, Facebook and Twitter directly via the camera.
Camera Connect’s remote shooting feature also allows users to take videos and photos via the smartphone interface. Advance remote shooting via the Camera Connect app is available for PowerShot SX710 HS, where users have control over the adjustments on settings such as shutter speed, focal point via touch focusing, ISO speed, and more.
