Google released the list of best apps of 2024 on Play Store
Alle, an app that provides personalized fashion tips to users using artificial intelligence (AI), has been named the best app of the year in India by Google. Announcing its picks for the Google Play Store’s best apps and games for 2024 in India on Tuesday, the tech giant said five of the seven apps on the winners’ list have been developed by Indian companies.
The AI-powered fashion stylist app has also been named this year’s ‘Best for Fun’ app on the Google Play Store. Founded by two former Meesho employees in 2023, the Alle app offers an AI chatbot service for expert fashion advice. Through the app, users can shop for clothes from multiple brands and retailers. It also offers a virtual try-on feature, which lets users see how the clothes look on them before making a purchase.
Expressing gratitude for being named the best app in India, Prateek Agarwal, Co-founder and CEO of Alle, said, “Our next big goal is to make Alle the ultimate destination for discovering and shopping the latest fashion trends. We are working on two key priorities: ensuring our inspiration is always ahead of the curve with the most current trends, and making every single piece in every look instantly shoppable.”
Other Best Apps on Google Play Store
Another AI-powered app called Headline was declared the winner in the ‘Best for Personal Growth’ category. Headline uses AI to deliver personalized news, reflecting the growing sophistication of AI in understanding individual preferences.
Amid the steady rise of AI-powered mobile apps, Indian users on Google Play Store captured 21 per cent of the global downloads of AI mobile apps this year. Google, citing data from Access Partnership, said that “many of these apps are built by Indian developers, who are adopting AI. Nearly 1,000 apps and games in the country are incorporating this technology.”
Google Play Store named Meta-owned WhatsApp as the ‘Best Multi-Device App’ in India this year. Apart from this, Sony Liv was named ‘Best App for Big Screen’ as it provides a high-quality, immersive viewing experience on large-screen devices like tablets.
Best Made-in-India Gaming App
Pune-based gaming startup SuperGaming won the award in the ‘Best Made in India’ category for the second consecutive time thanks to its mobile app Indus Battle Royale. According to Google, Indus Gaming App has become the winner due to integrating Indian visuals and storytelling in the popular battle royale genre.
