WhatsApp’s new feature allows adding music to status

Meta-owned WhatsApp has launched a new feature that allows users to add a soundtrack to their profile updates. This update is similar to Instagram’s feature where users can add a music clip to their photos and videos uploaded to Stories for 24 hours.

Notably, text status updates on WhatsApp do not support this feature. Photo statuses can have up to 15 seconds of soundtrack and video statuses can have up to 60 seconds of music.

In a press release, the company said that through WhatsApp status, people share their memories and life moments with their family and friends. Adding great music clips to their status allows them to express and personalize these moments in clear words. This update has been launched globally and will continue to expand in the coming weeks.

Although the new WhatsApp feature is similar to other Meta platforms, there is a key difference here. Music shared on the status is end-to-end encrypted, which means only your friends can see the songs. The important thing is that WhatsApp itself cannot see the songs that the user has shared.

How to add music to your WhatsApp status

To add music to your WhatsApp status, you need to follow the steps given below:

Step 1: Open the WhatsApp app.

Step 2: Go to the ‘Update’ tab.

Step 3: Tap on the ‘Add Status’ icon to add a new status.

Step 4: Now select a photo or video from the gallery or click on a new one.

Step 5: After selecting, tap on the new music icon at the top.

Step 6: Choose the soundtrack you want to add to your photo or video from the music library.

Step 7: You can adjust the location of the music sticker if needed.

Step 8: Post a status update with the selected music.

WhatsApp’s music library contains licensed tracks. This is similar to Instagram’s music feature, which means that the availability of music is dependent on licensing. Also, users do not have the right to add their own songs.
