Shutdown: Pauri bandh to mark protest for new district

A complete bandh was observed at Bironkhal in Pauri Garhwal on a call given by the Parvatey Jila Banao Sangharsh Samiti to demand the constitution of a new hill district comprising Bironkhal, Nainidanda, Rikhnekhal, Pokhda and Thailisain blocks of Pauri Garhwal district.

Dhirendra Pratap, chairman of the Uttarakhand Rajya Andolakari Parishad, urged Chief Minister Harish Rawat to introduce a legislation in the ensuing Assembly session at Gairsain with a proposal of constituting seven new districts in the state. All public institutions, schools and shops remained closed.
