Dry winter spell to continue in Uttarakhand
With Uttarakhand receiving scanty showers from the beginning of this year, the overall rain deficit in January (as of January 17) has been recorded at a whopping 93%. Snowfall in the hilly regions of the state has also been very poor as compared to the average during this time of the year. The situation might not improve in the coming days as the meteorological department has predicted the continuation of a dry spell, except for slight rain on January 19.
The state witnessed only 1.3 mm rainfall from January 1 to 17, as opposed to the expected 5.2mm. Expect some showers on January 6 and 7, most parts of Uttarakhand have stayed dry in this month.
Bikram Singh, director, meteorological centre, Uttarakhand, told TOI, “The rain deficit in the month of January (as on date) stands at 93%. The state had received showers on January 6 and 7 with a 1mm average. Apart from that, the weather stayed dry.”
Districts like Pauri and Udham Singh Nagar are reeling under 100% rain deficiency in January, with no showers reported in past 17 days. Moreover, there are no signs of rain. “Light to very light snow and rain might occur in hilly districts on Tuesday. However, the weather will remain more or less dry across the state after that,” said Bikram Singh.
