Auli/Chamoli: The Winter Ski Carnival and Open Championship will be held from 22 to 25 February, 2015 at Auli under the aegis of Winter Games Association, Uttarakhand, Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam, and the Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board.
Auli has Asia’s longest ropeway:
Providing this information, Secretary, Tourism, Dr Umakant Panwar said today that the Carnival and Championship would not only boost tourism in Uttarakhand, but also acquaint tourists from all around the country to the many dimensions of tourism in the state. Tourists could reach Joshimath by road, from where Asia’s longest ropeway could be used to reach Auli. The re-opening of the Ropeway has increased the allure of Auli among the skiers coming to enjoy the excellent skiing slopes of the resort. The excellent snowfall this year has delighted skiers and local people. As compared to earlier years, the abundance of snow will make it easier to hold the skiing competitions.
Auli only one of three places in India to host the skiing competitions
It may be noted that skiing competitions are held at only three places in the country – Manali in Himachal Pradesh, Gulmarg in J&K, and Auli, Uttarakhand. Such events are held every year in Uttarakhand to promote adventure tourism.
Skiing enthusiasts will be motivated to visit Auli to participate in the Winter Ski Carnival & Open Championship.
