Cabinet approves Chevning Scholarship Scheme for higher education
There is good news for the students of university campuses and government colleges under the state. Under the Chief Minister Higher Education Chevening Scholarship Scheme, each selected student will get a scholarship of Rs 68 lakh to study in any university of the United Kingdom.
In this regard, the Cabinet has approved the agreement between the Uttarakhand State Government and the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), British High Commission Office on Wednesday. The MoU was signed between the State Government and FCDO on 14 August 2024 for the scholarship scheme. This Chevening Scholarship Scheme is a global scholarship scheme of the United Kingdom Government.
The course will provide an opportunity to study a master’s course for one year
Under which financial assistance is provided for studying in any university of the United Kingdom. Under this scheme, a maximum of five applicants from university campuses and government colleges under the state will get an opportunity to study a master’s course for one year in any course as per their convenience in any university of the UK. At present, this scheme will operate for three academic sessions 2025-26, 2026-27 and 2027-28.
Under this, scholarships worth about 68 lakhs are to be given. According to the contract, the Uttarakhand government will bear Rs 22 lakh on one selected applicant. That is, the state government will spend about Rs 110 lakh on five students. At the same time, FCDO will bear about Rs 42 to 46 lakh on each applicant.
