CM Dhami to visit Delhi amidst cabinet expansion speculations

After the resignation of Premchand Agarwal from the post of minister in the Uttarakhand government, speculations of cabinet expansion have intensified. CM Pushkar Singh Dhami will reach Delhi on Tuesday at 1:30 pm and will meet senior BJP leaders. There may be a discussion about cabinet expansion in the state, after which the cabinet expansion is likely to take place in the next few days.
Parliamentary Affairs and Finance Minister Prem Chand Aggarwal, who was facing protests for the last three weeks for his remarks about ‘mountain-plains’ in the assembly, resigned from the post on Sunday. There were protests from social media to the streets in the state over the remarks of Prem Chand Aggarwal, MLA from Rishikesh assembly seat.
In Uttarakhand, the BJP came to power for the second consecutive time in the year 2022 and a total of nine ministers, including Pushkar Singh Dhami, took oath. According to constitutional provisions, the cabinet of Uttarakhand can have a maximum of 12 members. After the death of Social Welfare and Transport Minister Chandan Ramdas in April 2023, the number of cabinet members was reduced to eight and now after the resignation of Prem Chand Aggarwal, only seven ministers are left.
Discussion intensified due to these reasons
BJP’s state unit president Mahendra Bhatt has also recently expressed the possibility of expansion of the state cabinet soon. Bhatt had said that he has discussed this issue with the Chief Minister and everyone believes that this is a good opportunity for cabinet expansion in the state. Bhatt’s statement has come at a time when immediately after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Uttarkashi, the Chief Minister is going to go to Delhi and meet the central leadership of the party.
