Municipal elections: BJP and Congress declare candidates on these seats in first list
BJP and Congress on Friday released the first list of candidates for the civic elections to be held in Uttarakhand next month. BJP announced candidates for 39 municipal heads and 39 Nagar Panchayat president posts. The party will release the list of mayor candidates later.
At the same time, Congress released a list of 48 candidates including three mayors. Congress has made Meena Rawat in Srinagar, Sandeep Sehgal from Kashipur and Lalit Joshi in Haldwani as mayor candidates. Late Friday evening, a meeting was held between Chief Minister Pushkar Dhami, BJP State President Mahendra Bhatt and State General Secretary Organization Ajay Kumar regarding the candidates at the CM residence.
After the green signal from the Chief Minister, BJP State General Secretary Aditya Kothari has released the list of candidates. The party has bet on new candidates on many seats. On the other hand, Congress also released the list of approved candidates late evening.
Earlier, a round of marathon meetings continued throughout the day. After the release of the BJP list at around 10 pm, all eyes were on the list of Congress. The list was finalized late at night. In this, the party has announced the names of candidates for the post of three mayors, 20 municipalities and presidents in 25 Nagar Panchayats.
