No Lokayukta in Uttarakhandkhand for past 27 months

Firing a fresh salvo on the Harish Rawat-led government, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has demanded the immediate appointment of a Lokayukta, a post which has been lying vacant for the past 27 months in the Himalayan state. After a string of attacks on the state government over the smart city project, the AAP on Monday raised the issue of naming a Lokayukta at the earliest. Failing which, the party has warned agitations and protests in the state capital.

Since anti-graft chief M M Ghildiyal stepped down from the post in September 2013, it has been lying vacant. Despite the repeated assurances by the state government, the post remains vacant. Senior AAP leader Anoop Nautiyal and other party members gathered outside the Lokayukta office at Patel Nagar on Monday to raise the “serious” issue.
