Record demand for electricity amidst rising temperature

Amidst the scorching heat in the state, the demand for electricity has reached a record level in the month of June. For the first time on Thursday, the demand reached 6.1 crore units. UPCL has claimed full availability as compared to the demand.

After the record demand in May, for the first time in the month of June also, the demand for electricity in the state has reached a record level of 6.1 crore. Last year the demand for electricity was 5.5 crore, 5.4 crore in 2022, 4.7 crore in 2021 and 4.2 crore units in 2020. This time the demand for electricity has gone to a record level in mid-June itself.

UPCL Managing Director Anil Kumar said that there is an availability of 4.8 crore units as compared to the total demand of 6.1 crore units. 1.2 crore units of electricity are being purchased from the market. On the other hand, due to heavy demand for electricity, heavy load in summer, power disruption was reported in some plain rural areas including Haridwar. However, UPCL management said that at present, due to availability as compared to the demand, no announced cut is being made anywhere.
