Skiing tournament in Auli cancelled due to lack of snowfall
The international skiing championship slated to be held in the world famous ski slopes ofAuli has been canceled due to insufficient snowfall this season. The championship was proposed from 16 to 22 February. About this, the Winter Games Federation has sent a report to the Federation of International Skiing (FIS).
The government had decided to organize skiing championships in Auli from 15th to 21st of January this year, but then due to lack of snowfall the dates were postponed to 16th February.
Meanwhile, an attempt was made to create artificial ice from the Snow Making machine, but due to lack of favorable temperature, it also did not succeed.
Artificial ice can stay on when the temperature is not more than five degrees, but the maximum temperature is running between eight to ten degrees Celsius. In Auli, there was only nominal snow this season. SP Chamoli, President of the Winter Games Association of Uttarakhand said that the event is not possible under the current circumstances. That’s why the championship has been canceled. He said that if substantial snowfalls in February, the national level championship can be considered.
