Slabs set for electricity consumption by power corporation employees

7,675 workers and pensioners in all three energy corporations are provided electricity at concessional rates. They cost about 2.5 million units of electricity every month. A PIL was filed in the High Court against it six months ago. On this, the High Court had sought a reply from the Energy Corporation, ordering a ban on the distribution of cheap electricity and also ordered that a slab of fix charge and unit consumption be prepared.
On January 23, a meeting of the Board of Directors of energy corporations was held, in which fixation charges were increased and the limit of power units consumed annually was fixed. According to the decision, officers and personnel of different cadres will now have to pay the same fees as the general consumer on the increased units if they consume more power than the prescribed unit in a year.
