Uttarakhand by-elections 2024: Congress wins Badrinath & Manglaur seats

In the by-elections in Uttarakhand, the victory chariot of BJP has been halted. BJP which has been in power for the last ten years in the state suffered a setback. During this time, BJP had won all the by-elections. On the other hand, Congress has registered its first victory in the last ten years. The electoral battle of Badrinath and Manglaur was a tough contest. After the Champawat and Bageshwar by-elections, the spirits of BJP were high due to the victory in the Lok Sabha elections, but there was a big upset in the results of these by-elections.

In the by-elections held on two assembly seats in the state, Congress candidate Qazi Nizamuddin won the Mangalore seat and Lakhpat Singh Butola won the Badrinath seat. In the 2022 assembly elections, BJP was defeated by Congress on the Badrinath assembly seat, but Rajendra Bhandari, who wrote the script of Congress’s victory, joined BJP just before the Lok Sabha elections. In the Lok Sabha elections, BJP had left Congress behind by 8254 votes from Badrinath assembly constituency in Garhwal parliamentary seat, but after Bhandari joined BJP, the party was expecting an even bigger lead.

Congress has won both the assembly seats in Uttarakhand. Congress candidate from Mangalore Qazi Nizamuddin has won by 449 votes from his rival BJP’s Kartar Singh Bhadana. Qazi Nizamuddin got a total of 32710 votes while BJP candidate Kartar Singh Bhadana got 31261 votes and BSP got 19552 votes.

Congress has registered victory in Badrinath assembly by-election as well. Congress’s Lakhpat Butola has won by 5202 votes. Lakhpat Butola got a total of 27696 votes while BJP’s Rajendra Bhandari got 22601 votes.
