Uttarakhand Electricity rates 2023: UERC approves increase in tariff
Over 20 lakh electricity consumers of Uttarakhand will get a be impacted from April 1, as Uttarakhand Electricity Regulatory Commission has increased the electricity rates for FY 2023-24. At the same time, the electricity rates of four lakh BPL consumers have been increased by 10 paise per unit after five years. The commission has also made a provision of more discount than before to the consumers who pay their bills on time.
Regulatory Commission Chairman DP Garola and Member (Technical) MK Jain told that after the public hearing, they have not made any increase in the fixed charge. The three power corporations (UPCL, UJVNL and PTCUL) had proposed a total hike of 28.57 per cent, against which the commission has proposed an increase of 9.64 per cent. At present, surcharge is applicable till March 31, due to which this increase is 1.79 percent. Electricity bill will be sent every month to all domestic consumers. Member (Technical) MK Jain informed that as per the National Tariff Policy, the increase has been made to keep the cross subsidy at 20 per cent from the average cost of supply. After this tariff hike, the cross subsidy of the domestic category is reaching 19.8 to 20 per cent.

Discount on bill payment increased in 10 days
The Regulatory Commission has given some relief to those who deposit the electricity bill within 10 days. Those making digital payments will now get 1.50 per cent discount instead of 1.25 per cent. Those depositing bills through other means within 10 days will now get a rebate of 1 percent instead of 0.75 percent. According to the regulatory commission, this would give consumers a profit of around 18 per cent per annum.
Security deposit interest will be available every year
Whatever security fee you would have deposited while taking the electricity connection, now every year in the month of May you will get 6.75 percent interest. The Regulatory Commission has issued guidelines in this regard. If industries do not get an average supply of 18 hours a day in a month, then they will have to pay 80 percent of the fixed charge instead of 100.
