Uttarakhand electricity tariff: Committee to issue new electricity rates effective from 1st April

More than 20 lakh electricity consumers in Uttarakhand may get a jolt of price hike from April 1 in the state. Uttarakhand Electricity Regulatory Commission has completed the public hearing. After this, the meeting of the Electricity Advisory Committee has also been held. A new tariff will be issued on March 31, which will be applicable from April 1.

UPCL, PTCUL and UJVNL together had sent a proposal for a 10.5 percent hike to the regulatory commission. In this, there is a proposal of 4.5 percent of UPCL, which is going to directly affect the general public. At the same time, UJVNL has demanded an increase in the sale rates of electricity and PTCUL has demanded an increase in the transmission rates from the regulatory commission.

On this proposal, the Regulatory Commission held public hearings from February 26 to March 8 at Ranikhet, Rudrapur, Dehradun, Kotdwar. Domestic electricity rates have not increased for a long time. Every time a proposal is sent by UPCL but the commission does not approve it or marginally approves it. This time there is pressure to increase domestic rates in view of the losses of UPCL. It is believed that there may be some increase in domestic rates as well.

UPCL has given a plan to recover from the loss

UPCL, which is constantly facing losses, has put a three-year plan in front of the regulatory commission this time. It has been told that if the rate hike and other decisions are taken according to them, then surely in the coming three years, UPCL will be able to come out of the deficit. Now the commission has to take a decision on this.

After the completion of the public hearing, the meeting of the Electricity Advisory Committee has been held. Now brainstorming is going on on all aspects regarding the new tariff.
