Uttarakhand weather update: Snowfall in the mountains; cold wave hit the plains

Due to change in weather on Saturday, light snowfall occurred in Kedarnath & Badrinath. Majority of the districts remained cloudy throughout the day, due to which the cold increased.
The weather changed once again on Saturday morning, the high Himalayan regions of Kedarghati remained cloudy throughout the day. Light snowfall occurred on high peaks including Kedarnath. Due to cloud cover in the lower areas, severe cold was felt.
The increase in cold had a direct impact on life. In the high altitude areas, people remained confined to their homes, while there was less movement of people in the markets.
Chances of snowfall on Sunday as well
According to the Meteorological Department, partial clouds may remain in most areas on Sunday as well. There are chances of light snowfall in the mountainous areas and showers may occur at some places in the lower areas. There are chances of heavy rain and snowfall in the entire state on January 23, the day of voting for the civic elections. After a bright sunshine all day on Friday, the weather changed again on Saturday.
From morning on Saturday, the entire state including Doon was covered with partial to mostly clouds. Due to which the chill increased again and the mercury dropped. At the same time, cold winds also increased the difficulties. In the evening, light snowfall started on the peaks around Kedarnath. Whereas, there was no snowfall in other Dhams till late night.
Weather took a turn, thick fog and cold wave prevailed
Thick fog prevailed in the plain areas of the state in morning and cold wave also continued. Due to which the weather became very cold. In such a situation, people were packed in warm clothes to avoid the cold. Also, people were seen warming their hands by lighting bonfires at various places.
There was dense fog in Roorkee and surrounding areas in the early morning. Cold wave also continued. Due to fog, visibility was very low. In such a situation, the speed of vehicles was slowed down.
According to the information received from the Rural Agricultural Weather Service Project run in the Water Resources Development and Management Department of Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee, Haridwar district will remain partially cloudy till January 22. The weather will remain cold and dry.
Nainital’s weather remained pleasant with light clouds
The weather of the lake city remained pleasant with light clouds on Saturday. Most of the time the sun was shining. The weather department has predicted that the weather will remain dry for the next three days. In the morning, the sky was covered with thick clouds in the city. As the day progressed, the pattern of the weather kept changing.
Dense clouds again covered the sky in the evening. Due to which the cold increased and people had to take the help of fire and heater. According to the forecast issued by the State Meteorological Department Dehradun, the weather is likely to remain dry for the next three days, although clouds will keep coming and going. Tourists who arrived from different cities on the weekend enjoyed the weather along with the picturesque tourist places of the city. According to GIC Meteorological Center, the maximum temperature was 19 and minimum was eight degrees Celsius. Humidity was maximum 81 and minimum 48 percent.
Changing weather increased cold in Bageshwar
The weather kept changing throughout the day in the district. Due to which the cold has increased. Himalayan villages are facing the most problems. Clouds covered the sky since Saturday morning. Due to clear sky at night, heavy frost fell. The minimum temperature reached three degrees Celsius.
