Voting in 100 municipal bodies of the state today

Elections will be held in 100 municipal bodies of Uttarakhand today on Thursday. The fate of 5,405 candidates will be sealed in the ballot boxes. Counting of votes will be held on Saturday, January 25. IAS and PCS officers have been deployed as observers in all the bodies by the State Election Commission. A control room has been set up in the commission office. The commission has deployed 16,284 employees, 25,800 policemen in the elections. About 30,29,000 voters will vote. Municipalities Kichha and Narendranagar are not included in this election.

72 mayor candidates in 11 municipal corporations

72 candidates are in the fray for the mayor in 11 municipal corporations, while there are 445 candidates for the president in 89 municipalities and municipal councils. A total of 4,888 candidates are trying their luck for the post of ward member/councilor in all corporations, municipalities and panchayats.

Voting percentage expected to cross 70

Voting percentage has been increasing continuously in the previous municipal elections. This time the State Election Commission has emphasized on increasing the voting percentage. In 2008, 60 percent voting took place in the state, 61 percent in 2013 and 69.79 percent in 2018. This time the voting is estimated to be 70 to 75 percent.
